The Howey Mansion Estate

Through restoration and careful attention to detail,
The Howey Mansion Estate has been restored to its glory.

Our Owners

Brothers Brad and Clay Cowherd, Florida natives raised in Winter Park, come from a long line of real estate professionals. As third-generation investors, they were inspired by the legacy of their father and grandfather, both of whom were deeply involved in the Orlando real estate and development community. Frequent visits to their Lake House in Yalaha sparked a fascination with the then-abandoned Howey Mansion. Over time, this interest grew into a passionate vision: to restore the historic estate to its former grandeur and transform it into a cherished asset for the community.

It has been the Cowherd family's privilege and honor to restore the Howey Mansion, working in collaboration with historical experts, talented partners and skilled craftsmen. Together, they have breathed new life into one of Florida's architectural treasures.

Brad Cowherd lives in Orlando with his wife, Christina, and their six children. Avid travelers with a heart for service, their family leads a faith-based non-profit in Guatemala, providing wood-burning stoves to rural Mayan communities.

Clay Cowherd resides in Charleston with his wife, Rachael, a faculty physician at the Medical University of South Carolina
and their four children.

Managers of the Restoration

On July 14, 2017, we embarked on an incredible journey. Our nephews, Brad and Clay Cowherd, had just closed on the purchase of the long-abandoned and historic Howey Mansion. We were there that first day to change the locks and begin the restoration of this captivating estate. In the months leading up to this moment, we pored over the rich history of the Mansion, eagerly anticipating what lay ahead. Still, nothing could have truly prepared us for the unique adventure that was about to unfold.

We were semi-retired and as a couple brought a unique work experience and a deep love for all things old to this project. We spent our first night in the Mansion with no air conditioning and boards still covering the windows. For the next nine months, we lived inside the Mansion, working closely with our nephews to find and oversee the extraordinary craftsmen who helped bring this Central Florida landmark back to life. It is they who deserve the credit for many of the intricate, beautiful details that were salvaged and restored with such care. We will be forever grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this remarkable transformation. It brings us immense joy to see this once deteriorating beauty brought roaring back to life and to know that the Howey Mansion will once again be filled with love, laughter and community for generations to come.
